For Nigerian creative director, illustrator, character designer and writer Uyiosa Ebitanbo Osaretin, art has never been confined to a single discipline. Whether illustrating characters, developing visual identities or writing stories, his practice is rooted in a simple but deeply held belief: art is life.
Currently in his final year studying Fine Arts and Design at the University of Port Harcourt, Osaretin has spent years nurturing a creative curiosity that stretches far beyond the studio. He finds inspiration in thoughtful cinema, often carrying the ideas and emotions of a single film with him for months. His imagination is already occupied with future projects—films, series, brands and artworks waiting to be realised.
For Osaretin, art is inseparable from human experience. Every person moves through life differently, collecting memories, emotions and perspectives that shape the way they see the world. It is these individual experiences, he believes, that make every creative work unique. Even when two people begin from the same place, the stories they tell will never be identical.
This understanding extends beyond galleries and canvases. Cooking, gardening, fashion, design, dance and countless everyday acts of creation become expressions of identity and reflection. In sharing them, we offer the world fragments of ourselves.
To Osaretin, creativity is more than a profession or pastime—it’s a way of understanding life itself. Without it, we lose one of the most fundamental ways we connect with ourselves and with one another
